5 · Delivery and pickup

Who acts: the supplier: warehouse staff prepare, drivers deliver. Starts with: a paid order, or one set to pay on delivery. Ends with: goods handed to the buyer, on site or at the counter.

Delivery fees come from each supplier's own terms: zones they serve, a fee per zone, and often free delivery over an amount. The buyer sees the fee before ordering.

The steps

  1. Preparing. The supplier picks and packs the order.
  2. Dispatched (delivery) or ready for pickup. The buyer is told the driver and time window, or gets the pickup code.
  3. Delivered or picked up. The handover is recorded with who received it.

A supplier can dispatch part of an order when some lines are ready before others.

How it ends

Handover always leads to the same next step: the buyer checks the goods and signs the receipt, in step 6. The order shows Receipt pending sign-off until they do.

The pickup code belongs to the buyer

The supplier never sees the code. The buyer shows it at the counter, and the supplier enters it to prove the right person collected the goods.
